While chatting with a group applicant in Sandbox Goguen, we touched on an interesting topic.
GL Applicant: so i had a trolling incident i kinda failed at yesterday
Hal Jordan (greenlantern.excelsior): Oh?
GL Applicant: yeah, a chick called dabby
GL Applicant: she worked my button
GL Applicant: her and another person were bullying a furry
GL Applicant: that makes me mad
GL Applicant: as soon as i get mad, they have won
Hal Jordan (greenlantern.excelsior): I guess so
GL Applicant: i didn’t realise people do it for fun, they specifically go and try and get an angry reaction
GL Applicant: it ended ok, they started verbally attacking me instead of the other person, but i also verbally attacked themGL Applicant: so i was no better
Hal Jordan (greenlantern.excelsior): I’ve found that the way to make them angry is to act like their friend
GL Applicant: I have learnt alot thoughHal Jordan (greenlantern.excelsior): CoolGL Applicant: the main thing
GL Applicant: i just need to stay centered
Hal Jordan (greenlantern.excelsior): That’s mostly how the griefers get their jollies, by making their victims angry.
GL Applicant: let me know when you next get one, love to see how you deal with it
GL Applicant: i also made this, to rez behind me
GL Applicant: if nothing else, a reminder to me. It will also reinforce how i am feeling to the troll
Hal Jordan (greenlantern.excelsior): WOW!!
GL Applicant: im a visual kinda guy 😉
Hal Jordan (greenlantern.excelsior): Here’s what I wrote about a griefer I encountered last week: https://thegreenlanterns.wordpress.com/2011/01/19/griefer-madness/
GL Applicant: so see this “so yeah, i had a trolling incident, which i kinda failed at, yesterday”
GL Applicant: oh wrong thing…
Hal Jordan (greenlantern.excelsior): Heh, maybe I should write about that without mentioning your name.
GL Applicant: the bit in that blog where you said I wonder if greifers would turn their attention to productive things
GL Applicant: what i wonder is, what would happen if a greifer worked at stopping other greifer attacks
Here’s that he rezzed behind him, hence the “WOW!” That’s me standing under the letter “A.”
“Civil discourse” seems to be a big topic after the recent shootings in Tucson, even though that had nothing to do with the shootings. It doesn’t hurt to be nice to people, even if they’re nasty toward you. That’s not a religious thing, just a personal philosophy. Try it!
